The Fly By

So here is another plug about Richards giant kite. On Saturday we took the kite to the sand dunes out by Egan Lake, there was good wind until we got there but than it sorta died down. Richard and Nathan spent their time tyring to get the kite into the air, a lot of the pictures are from that night. We had Allison and her friend Liza with us and we spent some fun time playing in Egan lake with Zoie and Isaac, If you have never been to Egan than let me tell you that the lake is like three feet deep at its deepest, I don't know why it doesn't dry up, maybe it has a good inlet somewhere, anyway it was a lot of fun playing in the sand.
The next day, Sunday, we got the giant kite out again and this time the wind was good. It started out really strong and than got better after dinner and that is when we went out. I like the adventures soul that I am wanted to fly first, Richard and Nathan got the kite set up and Nathan came and held onto my wast. Richard through the kite and it pulled pretty good. after a while I felt I could hold the kite on my own and Nathan let go. I was alright at first but than a big gust of wind came and the kite picked me up off the ground, which was way cool, and than pulled me forward rapidly until I crashed and skidded into the ground. I kinda laid there for a while until I was sure I could walk, it hurt something awful! After that I took a brake for a wile, Daniel took the kite up then and had perfect winds.
A while later I decided I wanted to try again and this time I was going to have Nathan anchor me good. Just before Richard through the kite the wind picked up, he threw the kite and immediately I was pulled off the ground out of Nathans arms and than slammed back down onto the side I landed on the first time, I landed not quite as hard but hitting on my already bruised leg and scrapped arm didn't help me any. Needless to say I was done for the night. I will try next time, when all my bruises are better and hopefully will have more luck. So stay tuned for the next Fly By!

Let's go fly a kite or a... Nathan

So recently Nathan's brother Richard bought a kite, its not just any kite, this one can lift people off the ground. It has a 13 ft span I think and came used at about 100 dollars. Anyway, on Sunday we went out to Nathans parents for dinner as usual and Richard had his kite out, the wind was blowing fairly hard and Richard had already been out with the kite once that day, the wind took the kite and picked him up and than dragged him across the field, I wish I could have gotten it on film it would have made this post way better. So when we got to the house Richard came out and we could see that he had a grass stain almost the length of him, looking at his face we couldn't help but laugh.

After dinner Richard, Nathan, Daniel and their dad went out to fly. This time they came prepaired. Nathan came sauntering out of the garage with a golf bag strap strung between his legs and over his shoulders in a makeshift harness, I am laughing just thinking about it and I regret regret regret I didn't have my camera, needless to say his proud walk to the field was sort of bowlegged.

They got to the field and Richard screwed one of those twisty dog chain ancors into the ground and than attatched Nathan to that with a piese of rope. Then commenced launch, Daniel through the kite into the wind and boy did it leap, the kite strings pulled tight and lifted Nathan about 2 ft before his rope snapped and whipped him in the BUTT, his fun was not over yet though as he was pulled across the field in great lumbering leaps until the kite fell and he collapsed into the ground rolling in pain from the whip to the butt. It was soooo funny!!

The best though is that they tried it again, this time they used webbing instead of rope and a car tow cable then held by Richard and Dad. This time at lift off Nathan went up as before but then the anchor pulled loose and and the force of the wind popped one of the kite strings. Alas, our fun was over, but boy was it funny. Stay tuned for the next episode, will Nathan accomplish lift off, will Richard be carried off to the moon or dragged down the road. The fun is just beginning.

Why do our children allways barf on trips?

So our trip started like any other trip, we got up early and were all packed into the car on time. We started our drive and as seems to happen to us on a regular basis Zoie THRU UP! We hadn't even made it to Driggs, I turned around and saw it happening about the time Nathan stared dry heaving out the window. Zoie started screaming, which I cant blame her cause that is probably what I would do if I barfed on myself, and Nathan drove like a crazy person almost rear ending a truck on his expeditious way to a gas station. My dad was cozy in the back totally oblivious to all that was going on around him even though Zoie was screaming "I BURPED IT" at the top of her lungs and Nathan was dry heaving out the window. We got to the gas station and Nathan forcefully ejected himself out of the car (which was my parents car Luckily for me, unluckily for them cause now they have to drive cross country to Illinois in a car smelling like barf) just as Zoie discovered she had something unmentionable on her finger and wiped it on the car door.
We proceeded to strip Zoie in the parking lot which she didn't appreciate much and run her into the bathroom for a swift wash in the sink. Luckily I remembered I packed extra pants for Zoie because she is potty training, so when she was done with her little wash I pulled out the emergency pants. We had no shirt though so we swiped Isaac's jacket which was too small and showed off her tummy but it worked for the moment. While I was doing this dad got an air freshener which we hung above Zoies seat and we proceeded the rest of the trip uneventfully in a car smelling of pine and barf.
